Maryhill fire: Pensioner treated by paramedics after blaze in high-rise flat block

An elderly man was treated by paramedics after a fire broke out in a block of flats in the Maryhill area of Glasgow last night.

The fire occurred at around 10.30pm on Friday, August 20, in a property on Glenavon Road.

Firefighters battled the blaze after receiving reports of the incident with five appliances on the scene.

Ambulance services were also in attendance and a pensioner was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to reports of a small fire within a property at around 10.30pm.

"The multi-storeys require an immediate response with at least five appliances in attendance.

"There was one casualty, an elderly male, who suffered minor smoke inhalation and was given oxygen by the ambulance."
