Mary Lowry breaks silence after Patrick Quirke jailed over Bobby Ryan murder

Mary Lowry said she wants to build a new life after the conviction of her killer ex-boyfriend Patrick Quirke.

The heartbroken partner of Bobby Ryan, murdered by his love rival, told the Irish Mirror: “I’m not too bad. Sure, we have to try and get on with it.”

Quirke, 50, was caged for life on Wednesday for killing the part-time DJ known as Mr Moonlight before dumping his body in a tank.

It also emerged on Thursday the murderer refused to sign over his family home to his mum in a bitter inheritance row years before the murder.

Eileen Quirke previously said: “I am left, after what I would consider a very happy marriage, when my husband died, with nothing apart from the widows’ allowance.”

Ms Lowry, 52, appeared for the first time on Thursday since Quirke was caged.

She spoke at her new Bansha home in Co Tipperary and told the Irish Mirror it was time to move on.

Fighting back tears, the widow peered from behind the black front door of her newly built two-storey house just six miles outside of Tipperary town and surrounded by acres of land.

Dressed in a bright purple top and dark trousers, she threw her blue eyes towards the sky several times, trying not to let the tears fall.

Her red jeep was parked in the front yard while her black labrador dog sat watching guard.

The well kept house was surrounded by potted plants and flowers both on the windowsill and towards the back of the house.

Ms Lowry had given evidence in the longest murder trial in the history of the State, where she said she began a “seedy” affair with Quirke.

He had pleaded not guilty to the murder of Mr Ryan, a part-time DJ whose stage name was Mr Moonlight.

He vanished on June 3, 2011 after leaving Ms Lowry’s home at about 6.30am.

His body was found in an underground run-off tank on the farm owned by her and leased by Quirke at Fawnagown, Tipperary 22 months later on April 30th, 2013.

Ms Lowry told the court she began seeing Quirke following the death of her husband in 2007.

She said: “Look, it’s not easy to talk, it’s embarrassing. I was very vulnerable at the time.”

Ms Lowry told the court she would be intimate with Pat Quirke every Monday and Friday morning after her children left for school.

She said she ended the affair in the summer of 2010 having fallen head-over-heels for Bobby Ryan.

Prosecutors said “love and money” motivated the crime because Quirke wanted to rekindle his earlier affair with her.

The jury in the trial that gripped the nation spent a total of 20 hours and thirty nine minutes before returning their guilty verdict.

Stony-faced Quirke remained emotionless and stared blankly into space while the Ryan family sobbed and hugged one another.
