Mary Lou McDonald pays tribute to school friend who died in 9/11 attacks

Sinn Féin leader, Mary Lou McDonald has paid tribute to her school friend who died in the 9/11 attacks.

It is twenty years since the terrorist attacks shook the world.

Mary Lou McDonald dedicated a tweet to her schoolmate.

She said: "Twenty years today since this wonderful life was lost in the North Tower of the World Trade Centre.

"Our school mate and friend Joanne Creegan will never be forgotten.

"Love and thoughts with her family today #911Anniversary."

Yesterday, Dublin Fire Brigade honoured the victims and first responders of the 9/11 attacks at a ceremony.

The firefighters were invited to the 20th Anniversary memorial at the American Ambassador's residence.

Chief Fire Officer Dennis Keeley laid and U.S Chargé d'Affaires Alexandra McKnight laid a wreath at the 9/11 Memorial in the gardens.

Dublin Airport will host a 9/11 20th anniversary mass in their church to remember all those who died during the attacks.

It will take place at 11am this Sunday, September 12th.
