Mary Lou McDonald has 'useful and constructive' meeting with Green Party leader Eamon Ryan

Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald met the Green Party leader Eamon Ryan this morning.

She has described the meeting as "useful and constructive".

"I met this morning with Eamon Ryan TD, leader of the Green Party, and it was a very useful and constructive meeting.

"We have agreed to begin exchanging ideas, and we will talk and meet again over the coming days".

The Sinn Fein TD chosen to lead their negotiations with other parties, Pearse Doherty, revealed yesterday that they have contacted the Green Party, Labour, People Before Profit and the Social Democrats.

Following from her meeting today, Mary Lou McDonald said: "I have made it clear since before the election - and after - that I will speak to all parties in the interests of forming a government; starting with those with a mandate for change.

General Election: How many seats did each party win?

"The Green Party, having increased its mandate significantly, is undoubtedly one of those parties."

Fianna Fail TD Jack Chambers said yesterday on The Tonight Show "The question doesn't arise, the position is that we will not be going into government with Sinn Fein. I can't be clearer".
