Mary Lou McDonald has perfect response to Twitter troll's cruel comments about her looks

Mary Lou McDonald had the perfect response to a Twitter troll that made cruel comments about her looks.

The Sinn Fein leader appeared on RTE's The Meaning of Life of Sunday evening where she discussed religion and beliefs with host Joe Duffy.

But Twitter user Ciaran Meagher seemed more concerned about how the Dublin Central TD looked rather than her spiritual beliefs.

In a tweet which he appears to have since deleted, he wrote: "Mary Lou on The Meaning of Life. Considering she’s on TV, requisite make up applied etc, one has to wonder how bad she would look the morning after.

"Gun to head (I’m not suggesting they’re involved in that sort of thing) I think I would rather ride Gerry Adams."

But Ms McDonald responded to the nasty comments this afternoon and put the troll firmly back in his box with the brief stinging response of: "I doubt that you're his type."

Other Twitter users were quick to respond with many, including CervicalCheck campaigner Vicky Phelan, simply replying with applause emojis and Gifs.

One man wrote: "Now that’s a burn nobody can recover from."

While another added: "Hahaha good woman Mary Lou."

And another joked: "He's just playing hard to get, Mary Lou."
