Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy split because she 'wanted a baby'

Mary-Kate Olsen reportedly split from her husband Olivier Sarkozy over a disagreement about children.

It's said that the actress, 33, had wanted to have children while the French banker, 50, didn't.

The former couple were married for five years, but Olivier, who shares two adult children with ex-wife Charlotte Bernard, reportedly wasn't keen to start a family with Mary-Kate.

A source told PEOPLE Magazine : "A few years ago, having a baby was not a priority for [Mary-Kate]. This has changed."

It's also said that Mary-Kate originally tried to file for divorce from her husband in April, but that the court said they would not proceed with it due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But Mary-Kate, who rose to fame alongside her twin sister Ashley, then filed for an emergency order to allow her to file the divorce papers and have them looked into.

Olivier, who Mary-Kate started dating in 2012, is said to have made things difficult for his spouse by terminating the lease on their New York apartment without alerting her, forcing her to move out.

His lawyers had told her to move out by May 18, but she asked for more time - until May 30 - to gather her belongings together, but it's said she didn't hear back.

In a summons and complaint filed to New York's Supreme Court on April 17, she wrote: "It was clear my marriage was over... the relationship has broken down irretrievably."

She added: "My husband has terminated the lease on our New York City residence … without my consent.

"This application is an emergency because my husband expects me to move out of our home on Monday, May 18, 2020 in the middle of New York City being on pause due to COVID-19.

"I am petrified that my husband is trying to deprive me of the home we have lived in and if he is successful, I will not only lose my home but I risk losing my personal property as well."

Mary-Kate said she was unable to find another property to live in and retrieve all of her belongings because of the ongoing pandemic.

Mirror Online has contacted Mary-Kate and Olivier's representatives for comment.
