Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy's divorce 'could get messy' warn friends

Mary-Kate Olsen’s divorce from Olivier Sarkozy risks getting “messy” according to concerned friends close to the couple.

Fans of 33-year-old former child star Mary-Kate were shocked earlier this month when it was revealed she was seeking a divorce from 50-year-old Frenchman Olivier.

The split was announced in the midst of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic – and Mary-Kate is said to have been left devastated by the fact Olivier was allegedly trying to force her out of their home.

Now sources close to the pair have told the New York Post that things could turn ugly for the pair – citing how Olivier reacted during his first divorce from ex-wife, Charlotte Bernard, in 2011.

A source told the US publication: “His divorce from [his first wife] got very messy for a while and they really went after each other. Don’t underestimate him if it gets messy with Mary-Kate.”

While another New York society source added that Olivier had “completely changed” his attitudes to Mary-Kate since their 2015 wedding – sparking the collapse of their relationship.

The source claimed: “Even his view of the marriage had changed, which surprised people who knew them.”

It is reported that Olivier and Mary-Kate clashed over his desire to have a “stay-at-home wife,” with actress-turned-fashion designer Mary-Kate refusing.

Mary-Kate’s request for an emergency divorce earlier this month was denied by a New York huge.

Lucian Chalfen, a New York Supreme Court spokesman, said a judge determined the matter was not essential.

He said: "Currently, we are only accepting essential/emergency matters for filing. The original filing was rejected by the New York County Clerk because they did not follow the essential matter procedure.

"They refiled under the essential matter procedure and the matter was referred to the ex-parte judge, a New York State Supreme Court judge.

"He determined that it is not an essential matter, so they can't file anything at this point."

The matter had gone to court after the French banker reportedly responded by kicking Mary-Kate out of his multi-million dollar NYC apartment they shared together by terminating their lease without telling her.

It was reported Olivier's lawyers told his wife to get out on May 18, however that did not leave her with enough time to find a place of her own.

The couple have been married for five years.

Olivier and ex-wife Charlotte were married for fourteen years and have two children together.
