Mary Berry makes touching observation about Prince William's sweet gestures to Kate

Baking legend Mary Berry made a touching observation about Prince William and Kate Middleton after watching them while filming her Christmas special.

The 84-year-old former Great British Bake Off judge was joined by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as they shot A Berry Royal Christmas on BBC.

While filming for the one-hour programme, she noticed Kate and William are like incurable romantics.

Describing the royal couple, she said: "They really are a pigeon couple.

"It was just lovely observing them for those three days.

"When they are together, he is constantly touching her arm and looking over at her smiling and she is the same with him.

"It was very sweet to see because it was so natural."

Pigeons are regarded as incurable romantics and believed to  mate for life.

While the Cambridges helped Mary to prepare the thank-you dinner for 150 charity staff and volunteers who gave up Christmas Day, Mary observed the bond between the royal couple.

She told Mail on Sunday magazine : "It was easy to see that William is very proud of Catherine."

She also added that the Duchess got her seal of approval as they bond over food.

During the BBC festive special, Kate revealed that Prince Louis is also a big Bake Off fan.

She said in the preview clip: "One of Louis' first words was 'Mary', because right at his height are all my cooking books in the kitchen.

"And children are really fascinated by faces and your faces are all over your cooking books and he would say, 'That's Mary Berry'. So he would definitely recognise you if he saw you."
