Mary and Bernard's sweet parting words to Leeds neighbour go viral as they move to Halifax after 53 years

A Leeds couple’s incredibly kind gesture has gone viral after their touched neighbour posted it on Twitter.

“Mary and Bernard” wrote a touching card to Leeds man Ian Freud asking him to keep in touch as they will be moving to Halifax - popping £50 in a card and telling him to go out for a drink.

The couple had lived in the house together for 53 years but will be moving 40 minutes away.

Ian revealed their sweet parting gift in a Twitter post that has received 11,000 likes so far.

He wrote: "Mary and Bernard Next Door are moving out on Wednesday after 53 years together in that house.”

The card which was published along with the post reads: “Please, stay in touch and anytime you are in Halifax, please come and see us.

“Please accept this gift when things get back to normal, have a drink on us.

“Lots of love, Mary and Bernard.”

Hundreds of people have since shared the post praising the kind gesture.

One person said: “Old people are so precious.”

A second person said: “Would like to have neighbours like this! I think if all this Corona is over, you have to go on a trip to Halifax!”

A third added: “The content we didn’t know we needed but we can all get behind."

And someone else said: “Fantastic gesture. Real class. All the best to Mary and Bernard.”
