Marvin Lewis says he’ll be too busy to watch Bengals games next season

Marvin Lewis won’t be one of the onlookers when the Cincinnati Bengals play in 2019.

The longtime Bengals head coach says his responsibilities with the Arizona State Sun Devils will keep him tied up too much — but he’s hoping for the best when it comes to his guys.

Lewis appeared on Adam Schefter’s podcast and talked about how he’ll tackle Sundays.

“I don’t think I’ll be watching the  Bengals. Other than the fact the players there are near and dear to my heart but that’s it. The players that I brought there.”

Lewis singled out guys he brought aboard, even mentioning last year’s draft class and name dropping Billy Price and Sam Hubbard. He also (understandably) said he hasn’t had any contact with new Bengals head coach Zac Taylor.

As a whole, Lewis’ stance makes sense. After 16 years, a break isn’t the worst thing to happen to the former head coach who now has a tall task in front of him with the Sun Devils.
