Marvin Jones Jr. joins Jerry Rice and Sterling Sharpe in elite company

The Detroit Lions’ Marvin Jones Jr. caught four touchdown passes from Matthew Stafford in the Lions’ 42-30 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

The four TD passes put Jones in some heady company. He joined Sterling Sharpe and Jerry Rice as the only receivers to catch at least four TD passes in two games.

Jones corralled four TD passes in a game while a Bengal in October of 2013. On that day, Jones caught four TD passes from Andy Dalton while grabbing eight passes for 122 yards in a 49-9 romp over the Jets.

As a 49er in 1990, Rice caught five TD passes against the Atlanta Falcons in a 45-35 victory. Three years later, the G.O.A.T. of WRs caught four in a victory over the Bucs.

The Packers’ great, Sharpe, caught four scoring passes from Brett Favre in a win over the same Bucs in 1993 and in a Thanksgiving game against Dallas in 1994.

Jones’ accomplishment against Minnesota is more remarkable since it appears he is the first to grab four TD passes without breaking the century mark in yardage.
