Marvin Jones joins elite company with his 4-touchdown day

Marvin Jones was a major bright spot for the Detroit Lions in the team’s 42-30 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The veteran wideout torched the Minnesota defense for four touchdown receptions among his 10 catches.

Jones became just the second Lions wideout ever to haul in four TDs in a game. Cloyce Box was the only other one to do it and that happened in 1950. But Jones joined an even more prestigious list by pulling off his second career four-TD game.

Jones joins Jerry Rice and Sterling Sharpe as the only players in NFL history to ever catch four TDs in a game more than once. His first came as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals back in 2013. Rice, of course, is a Hall of Famer and almost inarguably the best wide receiver in NFL history. Sharpe was well on his way to Canton before a devastating injury ended his career after just seven seasons — three of which he led the league in receptions, twice in TDs.

Jones’ huge output wasn’t enough to overcome the Vikings, but it’s still mighty impressive to join such elite company.
