Marvin Jones, Jamal Agnew earn a spot on PFF’s Team of the Week

After making game-changing plays in a Week 3 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones and kick returner Jamal Agnew have earned a spot on Pro Football Focus’ Team of the Week.

Jones caught six of his nine targets for 101 yards, the eventual game-winning touchdown, as well as a key third-down catch on the same drive.

“Jones burst into action after a slow start to the year,” PFF’s Gordon McGuinness, “setting season highs in targets, receptions, yards and touchdowns. Four of his six receptions went for a first down, with another finding the end zone. Throws to him resulted in an NFL passer rating of 141.4 on the day.”

Agnew didn’t see the field as a defender but he made the most of his opportunities on special teams. After being benched in Week 2, coach Matt Patricia showed great coaching sticking with him on kick returns and it paid off early in Week 3.

“We didn’t see a return for a touchdown in the opening two weeks of the season,” McGuinness said, “but Agnew sorted that out early against the Philadelphia Eagles with an impressive 100-yard return for a score.”

Agnew did cede punt returning duties to Danny Amendola. But when Amendola was injured late in the game, coaches trusted Agnew to receive punts and once again he came through returning a punt for 24-yards. His play on Sunday surely earned him a lot of trust from teammates, coaches and fans.
