Marvin Jones did not travel with the Lions to Houston

Marvin Jones was a conspicuous absence from the Detroit Lions when the team took to the practice field in Houston for the joint sessions with the Texans on Wednesday. It turns out he won’t make an appearance at all while the team visits Texas.

Coach Matt Patricia informed the media in his pre-practice press conference that Jones did not make the trip with the team. According to Tori Petry, Patricia indicated the Lions are “trying to be smart” in dealing with Jones. He is working with trainers back at the team’s facility in Allen Park.

The Lions starting wide receiver missed the end of the 2018 campaign with a knee injury. It did not require surgery, but Jones has been careful to not overstress the recovery. He did not play in the preseason opener against New England.
