"Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls" has gotten off to a strong start, with the newly released fighting game selling an estimated 485,000 copies during its first week on the market.
The figure comes from Alinea Analytics and covers sales across PlayStation 5 and PC as of Aug. 12. The game reportedly generated around $33 million in revenue during the same period.

The milestone is notable given the fighting genre's relatively niche appeal compared to blockbuster action games and shooters. Developed by Arc System Works and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, "Marvel Tokon" launched on Aug. 6 and marks Marvel's biggest return to the fighting game space in years. Analysts have described the performance as a promising debut for the new franchise.
According to Alinea Analytics, PlayStation 5 accounted for roughly 74% of total sales, while Steam represented the remaining 26%. The strong PlayStation showing was not unexpected given Sony's role as publisher and the game's marketing focus on the platform. Steam sales, however, appear to have been affected by technical issues reported by PC players shortly after launch.
PC Version Experienced Issues Upon Launch
Several users criticized the PC version for performance problems, bugs, and other technical shortcomings. Arc System Works has already released updates aimed at addressing some of those concerns. Despite the issues, "Marvel Tokon" still managed to approach the half-million-sales mark within its opening week.
Industry analyst Rhys Elliott believes the game could have performed even better under different circumstances. In comments highlighted by GamesRadar, Elliott suggested sales may have been significantly higher if the PC version had launched in a stronger state and received more favorable Steam reviews. He noted that negative user feedback likely discouraged some potential buyers during the game's critical launch window.
Even so, the early numbers indicate that "Marvel Tokon" has found an audience among both Marvel fans and fighting game enthusiasts. Alinea's data suggests many buyers were already active within the fighting game community, with substantial overlap among players of titles such as "Dragon Ball FighterZ," "Street Fighter 6," and "Mortal Kombat 1," according to GameSpot.
That trend points to strong interest from genre veterans while also giving Marvel a foothold in the competitive fighting game scene.
Critics Have Praised 'Marvel Tokon'
The game's reception has also been helped by positive reviews from critics. Reviewers have praised "Marvel Tokon's" anime-inspired presentation, accessible mechanics, and large-scale 4v4 battles. Many have described it as a strong successor to past Marvel fighting games and a welcome comeback for the superhero fighting genre.
Whether "Marvel Tokon" can maintain its momentum remains to be seen, but its launch performance has already exceeded what some observers expected from a niche fighting title. With ongoing patches and future content updates likely on the way, the game could continue building its audience in the weeks ahead.
For now, nearly 500,000 copies sold in seven days gives Sony, Marvel, and Arc System Works a strong foundation for the franchise's future.
