'Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls' Reveals Phoenix Cyclops as First Year 1 DLC Character

"Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls" has a lot of surprises for Marvel fans. For its first Year 1 DLC character, the game immediately gave fans a reason to stay for the upcoming 4v4 tag-team fighting game. The announcement was made during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where the developer also premiered the game's official opening movie.

The first downloadable character joining the roster is Phoenix Cyclops, a powerful version of the iconic X-Men hero inspired by his Phoenix Five incarnation from "Avengers vs. X-Men."

The character combines Cyclops' signature Optic Blasts with the immense power of the Phoenix Force.

Phoenix Cyclops Joins the 'Marvel Tōkon' Roster

Ray Chase voices Phoenix Cyclops, continuing his portrayal of Cyclops in X-Men '97 and Marvel Rivals. His involvement gives the new fighter a connection to several recent Marvel entertainment projects.

According to Arc System Works, Phoenix Cyclops combines long-range Optic Blasts with aggressive close-range attacks and devastating Phoenix Force abilities. His moveset is designed to take advantage of the game's fast-paced 4v4 tag-team combat system.

Phoenix Cyclops is scheduled to join "Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls" in fall 2026. He will be the first of four planned Year 1 DLC characters that Arc System Works intends to release after launch.

The developer has also announced plans for one additional stage as part of the game's Year 1 content. More details about the remaining DLC fighters and the new stage are expected to be revealed at a later date.

'Marvel Tōkon' Opening Movie Revealed

The DLC announcement was accompanied by the premiere of the official "Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls" opening movie.

Arc System Works said the cinematic draws inspiration from classic fighting games and anime opening sequences from the early 2000s. The result is designed to give the game a nostalgic visual identity while highlighting its Marvel characters.

According to IGN, Japanese animation studio Sanzigen produced the opening under the direction of Daisuke Suzuki. The collaboration includes a distinct anime-inspired style for the game, reflecting Arc System Works' experience with visually dynamic fighting game presentations.

The opening theme, "Stronger as One," is also being released on music streaming platforms, allowing fans to enjoy the game's main song outside the cinematic.

When Will 'Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls' Arrive

"Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls" is scheduled to launch on August 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and PC.

With Phoenix Cyclops confirmed as the first Year 1 DLC fighter, Arc System Works is already building a post-launch roadmap for the game. The planned additions should give players more characters and content to explore after release.

Aside from this game, "Marvel Rivals" is another game which feature Cyclops for the Season 8 update.
