The next game by Insomniac Games, Marvel’s Wolverine, finally has a release date after months of uncertainty surrounding the superhero title.
The news dropped suddenly and without much fanfare via a social media post by the developers, which is especially surprising considering the (very) recent PlayStation State of Play came and went without a single mention of the game.
The post simply read, “Let’s cut to the chase: Marvel’s Wolverine launches September 15, 2026” alongside a short six-second video featuring a still image of the iconic X-Men character.
When is Marvel’s Wolverine coming out?
According to Insomniac Games, Marvel’s Wolverine is releasing on Sept. 15, 2026. With this new date, the highly anticipated game will squeak in a release just over a month before Grand Theft Auto 6 drops. Considering the status of GTA 6 as a title that will surely overshadow any and all games that release near its orbit, this close release seems a bit risky, especially if the game is hit with any more delays.

Is Marvel’s Wolverine exclusive to PS5?

Yes, Marvel’s Wolverine will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5 when it drops this fall. While gamers with PCs can hold out hope that the game will come to Steam in the next few years (as all three Marvel’s Spider-Man titles have), Xbox fans shouldn’t hold their breath on gaining access to the PS exclusive game.
Marvel’s Wolverine story and gameplay
Despite being announced all the way back in 2021 (alongside Marvel’s Spider-Man 2), not much information has been teased regarding Wolverine’s big video game outing, though one short gameplay trailer was released during the State of Play in Sept. 2025.
While specifics on the story haven’t been released yet, the gameplay trailer revealed a few of the characters Wolverine will see – and fight – like Mystique and Omega Red, as well as a mutant-killing Sentinel. Locations shown in the game include a wintry Canadian wilderness, Tokyo, and the fictional island of Madripoor.
Throughout the trailer, Wolverine is ripping and tearing through his foes with his signature retractable claws, wearing outfits that include his classic yellow suit and a flannel shirt, cowboy hat combo. Other gameplay details haven’t been revealed, but players will clearly have plenty of opportunity to enjoy using his claws in a huge variety of attacks.
It’s relieving to see more official news about Marvel’s Wolverine, especially after the devastating leak Insomniac Games suffered in 2023. Hopefully the game isn’t delayed any further, especially since that would likely mean setting it even later to avoid the release of GTA 6.
Seeing any news on the world’s favorite, angriest Canadian is a good sign, and finally having a set release date is a very good sign.
