Everyone’s favourite cute ’n’ clever sapling Baby Groot gets to star in his own animated series on Disney Plus in August.
The new show was teased by Marvel in a tweet that showed the anthropomorphic seedling casually listening to some tunes while reclining next to a pine air freshener – showing just how small the little guy actually is.
Peeking out from behind are two mysterious four-eyed penguin creatures, which we haven’t seen in any of the Guardians of the Galaxy films.
Vin Diesel – one of the world’s highest-grossing actors and best known for starring in the Fast & Furious franchise – reprises his role as the voice of Groot.
Other than that, Marvel and Disney are remaining tight-lipped about what this series of shorts has in store, although the former did say the show ‘follows Baby Groot’s glory days growing up, and getting into trouble among the stars’.
It is unclear if any other Guardians such as Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax or Rocket Raccoon will show up in animated form.

Fans of the comic and film franchise will be well aware of Groot’s rather limited vocabulary, so it will be interesting to see how the series pans out.
Disney seems fond of these spin-off shorts, which are mostly geared towards children.
Dug Days (from UP) , Olaf Presents (from Frozen) , and Ice Age Scrat Tales are all immensely popular on the streaming platform, so it makes sense to add another loveable character to its sizeable roster.
I Am Groot is set to drop on August 10, just before She-Hulk: Attorney at Law arrives on August 17.
The new Groot is the first original Guardians of the Galaxy spin-off thus far, but it won’t be the last as the eagerly-anticipated live-action Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will stream exclusively on Disney Plus in December.
Part of phase four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the show will once again reunite Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, and Pom Klementieff.
