Marvel's Eternals looks like a beautiful and bold new step for the MCU

In many ways, Marvel is quite familiar with breaking the mould and challenging the expectations of audiences.

After all, when Captain America exposed SHIELD's dirty secrets and fought against his best friend in The Winter Soldier, critics and fans alike hailed that film as the most grounded and exciting film to date in the MCU.

For their next adventure, Marvel introduced us to a weapons-loving raccoon, a talking tree and a green-skinned assassin in the superb Guardians of the Galaxy. See, they're nothing but eclectic!

Right now, you could argue that the studio is in its most interesting period from a creative standpoint - WandaVision and the films they've lined up for Phase 4 is proof od this - and that's why the trailer for Eternals is so interesting

Fresh from winning the award for Best Director at the Oscars with Nomadland, Chloé Zhao is definitely making a Marvel film that's unlike anything else - there's a very strong sci-fi vibe and ethereal vibe to this one.

In terms of story, Eternals follow an immortal alien race who have secretly lived on Earth for thousands of years. The heroes possess different powers and abilities, including super strength and the ability to fly.

While not much else is known from the trailer, it's clear that the Eternals are very aware of the Avengers and their need for a new leader.

The cast for this one is extremely impressive with Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Gil Birmingham, Harish Patel, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie all starring.

Eternals is due to arrive in Irish cinemas this November but before that, Marvel fans can enjoy Black Widow (July 9) and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (September 3).
