'Marvel's Cloak and Dagger' is coming to Freeform

April 08--Disney is spreading the wealth of its Marvel Comics library to its cable network Freeform.

"Marvel's Cloak and Dagger," which tells the story of an interracial romance between two teenagers who acquire super powers while falling in love, will make its debut in a live-action version later this year. The series is a co-production of Marvel Studios and ABC Signature Studios.

TV shows based on Marvel characters have shown up on ABC ("Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.") and Netflix ("Jessica Jones" and "Daredevil"). "Marvel's Cloak and Dagger" will be the first comic book series for one of Disney's cable networks. Marvel was acquired by Disney in 2009.

Freeform, formerly known as ABC Family, was recently renamed with a focus on its target audience of millennials, a change that makes it an appropriate home for "Cloak and Dagger." No air date or cast has been announced for the series.

Freeform also announced it has picked up "Famous in Love," based on the novel by Rebecca Serle. The series is about a college student named Paige who must learn to deal with success and fame after getting cast in the starring role of a Hollywood blockbuster movie. Bella Thorne plays the lead role of Paige in the series. Marlene King ("Pretty Little Liars"), Miguel Arteta ("Getting On") and Dan Farah ("Ready Player One") are executive producers, and Serle is co-executive producer.
