NetEase Games has announced a free Legendary upgrade for the Storm’s upcoming Sacred Skies skin in Marvel Rivals, featuring new animations and effects.
In the latest Marvel Rivals summer skin batch, Storm received an Epic skin, Sacred Skies. This makes Storm the only character in the new lineup without a Legendary summer skin, causing community uproar that NetEase addressed on Aug. 13 with a promise of a free Legendary upgrade.

The Legendary upgrade includes an all-new lobby animation, an updated MVP animation, and an Ultimate effect upgrade. NetEase added that the skin will still cost $16, despite the upcoming upgrades bumping it up to Legendary tier, which usually costs around $22.
There’s no set release date for the Legendary upgrade just yet. “As the upgrades will take some time, please be patient, as we are already hard at work on the above,” NetEase stated. The skin is available until Sept. 11, so you can pick it up now or wait until you see the new effects.
More Legendary skins for Storm
As of Season 9.5, Storm has eight skins, not including the Sacred Skies, one of which is Legendary (Goddess of Thunder). While it’s a decent number, Storm’s still not getting as many skins as some other heroes on the roster, with the community hoping she gets more attention. Moving forward, the developer wants to ensure there are more Legendary skins for Storm, hinting at more coming over the rest of the year.
As we wait for the Sacred Skies upgrade, the developer also prompted the community not to harass the studio’s staff, as some players seemingly did so to express their dissatisfaction. This should go without saying, but harassment under any circumstances is unacceptable.
There are still more summer skins coming to Marvel Rivals as part of Season 9.5. The Aug. 13 update includes the Krakoan Reels Vol.2 event, featuring skins for Star-Lord, Black Cat, and Winter Soldier. And in the store, there’s a Pop & Win gacha for Scarlet Witch’s and Magik’s skins.
