Marvel Rivals Season 9 patch notes: All hero buffs, nerfs, and global changes

Marvel Rivals Season 9 patch notes are here, and this new July 10 update changes several things.

NetEase has reworked key heroes across every role, adjusted Ultimate charge rates, and introduced Regenerative Shields to reshape how fights play out. Here’s every major change from the Season 9 balance update, broken down in simple terms.

Full Marvel Rivals Season 9 patch notes

Global changes

Season 9 starts with a wide range of balance. Ultimate Ability generation is now slower for all three roles, with Vanguards and Duelists generating 70% less energy from damage instead of 55%, while Strategists now generate 75% less instead of 60%.

The patch also introduces a new defense mechanic called Regenerative Shields. These shields restore over time outside combat and give several heroes a better way to survive poke damage and reset between team fights.

Marvel Rivals Season 9 Vanguard buffs and nerfs

Vanguards were one of the biggest winners in the patch, even if not every tank got stronger in the same way. Some heroes gained more durability, while others had their raw health trimmed to make room for stronger shield or sustain tools.

Angela, Doctor Strange, Hulk, Thor, and The Thing all received changes that should help them stay relevant in longer fights. At the same time, heroes like Captain America, Peni Parker, Rogue, and Venom were toned down in places where they were either too efficient or too hard to pressure.

Angela, Captain America, and Peni Parker changes

Angela now trades some raw health for Regenerative Shield value, which should make her feel sturdier in short engagements while reducing her team-buff value. Captain America also loses some base health and no longer benefits from his Team-Up Anchor health bonus, so his frontlining is a little less forgiving.

Peni Parker’s adjustments are more about syncing her with the new Team-Up system than about fully rebuilding her kit. She loses her Team-Up Anchor bonus health, which weakens her overall sustain in prolonged fights.

Doctor Strange, Hulk, and Thor changes

Doctor Strange gets one of the more meaningful upgrades in the patch. He receives more base health, stronger Shield of the Seraphim value, and a better cooldown on his ultimate-related utility, which should make him feel more reliable as a frontline spellcaster.

Hulk also gets a durability-focused pass, with more shield value helping him survive longer after diving in. Thor, meanwhile, picks up more agility and smoother pressure, making him feel less clunky when charging into fights.

The Thing, Venom, and Rogue changes

The Thing gets a more flexible setup for taking space, with better survivability tools and improved crowd-control pressure. Venom loses some base health but gains Regenerative Shield, which keeps him threatening while trimming some of his excess staying power.

Rogue’s damage is being pulled back after proving too strong in certain situations. She still keeps her identity as a high-threat skirmisher, but her burst and defensive value have both been reduced.

Marvel Rivals Season 9 Duelist changes

Duelists received some of the harshest tuning in Season 9, especially the heroes that were dominating damage charts or creating too much burst pressure. Iron Man, Hawkeye, Hela, Black Panther, Phoenix, Scarlet Witch, and Moon Knight all saw notable adjustments.

The overall goal here is clear: reduce one-sided damage spikes and make Duelists rely more on positioning and timing. Some heroes were nerfed directly, while others were buffed in small ways to keep them competitive without becoming oppressive.

Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Hela changes

Iron Man’s repulsor damage has been trimmed across multiple interactions, and he also loses his Team-Up Anchor damage bonus. That should bring down some of his easy damage output, especially in coordinated team play.

Hawkeye’s projectile speed and damage scaling were adjusted to make his long-range pressure a bit less overwhelming. Hela also loses some of her raw damage, though she picks up mobility improvements that may help her stay dangerous without relying so heavily on burst.

Black Panther, Phoenix, and Moon Knight changes

Black Panther gets a defensive reset through Regenerative Shield, which should help him survive longer after diving in. Phoenix gets a stronger ultimate damage profile, but she also loses some Team-Up power, so she should feel more balanced overall.

Moon Knight receives a damage boost to his primary attacks and more energy tied to his ultimate, which makes him a stronger option in the right hands. That said, he still needs smart positioning to get full value.

Scarlet Witch, Storm, and Psylocke changes

Scarlet Witch’s changes make her harder to abuse with Mystic Projection, which should stop her from escaping too safely after bad positioning. Storm gets a damage buff to Wind Blade, giving her more consistent pressure across fights.

Psylocke also benefits from the patch, with stronger base damage and better interaction with her telepathic and team-up tools. She should feel a little more reliable when diving the backline.

Marvel Rivals Season 9 Strategist buffs

Strategists look like one of the strongest role winners in the Season 9 update. Healing numbers went up across multiple heroes, shield values improved, and several support kits now feel more stable in sustained fights.

Invisible Woman, Mantis, Luna Snow, White Fox, Gambit, and Adam Warlock all received useful changes that should improve their value in team play. The patch clearly wants support players to feel more impactful without making them impossible to pressure.

Invisible Woman, Luna Snow, and Mantis changes

Invisible Woman gets stronger healing from her main attack and better self-sustain, which should make her easier to keep alive while supporting teammates. Luna Snow’s healing output also rises, especially when she is landing her key support tools on the right targets.

Mantis may be one of the cleanest winners in the patch. Her healing gets stronger, her sustain improves, and her overall kit should feel much more reliable during extended engagements.

Adam Warlock, White Fox, and Gambit changes

Adam Warlock gets more health and cleaner projectile tuning, which should make him less fragile in drawn-out fights. White Fox also gets a more efficient healing profile, with her support value improving through cooldown and bonus-healing tweaks.

Gambit’s healing and kinetic-card support output are both improved, giving him a stronger place in team fights. He is still niche, but this update should help him feel less like a sidegrade pick.

If you want strong picks after the Season 9 update, Doctor Strange, Hulk, Mantis, Luna Snow, Invisible Woman, and Storm all stand out. They either gained more durability, better healing, or cleaner damage patterns that fit the new meta.

For those who like frontline pressure, Doctor Strange and Hulk look especially appealing. For support mains, Mantis and Luna Snow are probably the safest bets, while Storm looks like a strong damage option that still rewards good mechanics.
