Marvel Rivals season 5 patch notes – Gambit, Rogue, new mode, and more

Two new X-Men join the fray in Marvel Rivals season five, and it's all about the love.

The season begins on Nov. 14, and Gambit is just the beginning as he will be joined by his paramour Rogue later on. But there's also new skins, new balance changes, a new game mode, and other new cosmetics, along with a change to how your rank begins in each competitive season.

Marvel Rivals season 5 patch notes

New Strategist: Gambit

Gambit will be the first new hero in season five, and he's a Strategist. He'll be joined by Rogue later in the season (likely in December), and signs point to her being a Vanguard.

The X-Men member can use his playing cards to heal allies, cleanse negative effects, deal damage, knockback enemies, or apply anti-heal. He can also use his staff to defend himself and for mobility.

For his Ultimate ability, he throws charged-up Ace cards at nearby teammates, super-charging their jump and buffing their attacks.

New game mode

Conquest (Annihilation) is a massive 18-versus-18 deathmatch mode on the new Grand Garden map, and it's going live after an update on Nov. 27.

  • Vanguard buffs
    • Angela
      • Increase Movement Speed of Assassin's Charge accelerated dash state from 16m/s to 18m/s.
      • Increase Heven's Retribution (Ultimate Ability) spear Health from 600 to 800.
    • Captain America
      • Freedom Charge (Ultimate Ability) New Effect: Allies within its path gain a 30 percent boost to Ultimate Energy charge efficiency.
    • Groot
      • Ironwood Wall New Effect: Gain Unstoppable status when within 15m of Awakened Ironwood Walls.
    • Hulk
      • Gamma Burst New Effect: Each direct hit reduces Indestructible Guard cooldown by 1s.
    • Magneto
      • Separate the cooldowns of Metal Bulwark and Iron Bulwark. Now, activating one won't send the other on cooldown.
      • Reduce Metal Bulwark and Iron Bulwark shield value from 250 to 200.
    • Peni Parker
      • Allies in Peni's Cyber-Webs now receive the same Healing Over Time and a Movement Boost effects as her. Movement Boost for allies is 25 percent, Healing is 15/s. Ally excess healing converts into Bonus Health, up to 25.
    • The Thing
      • Embattled Leap: Remove Damage Reduction from single leap target, now grants 20 percent Damage Reduction to all allies within 5m of his landing point. Reduce Damage Reduction to self from 25 percent to 20 percent.
      • Battle Blitz: Remove Damage Reduction from self. Now applies 20 percent Vulnerability to all enemies within 5m of his landing point.
      • Reduce Stone Haymaker base Damage from 90 to 55 and remove 50 Bonus Health gained during ability activation. New Effects: Deal bonus Damage equal to 8 percent of enemies' max Health per hit. Gain Bonus Health equal to damage dealt (up to 100).
  • Duelist buffs
    • Hawkeye
      • Increase Archer's Focus maximum Bonus Damage from 75 to 90.
    • Mister Fantastic
      • Reflexive Rubber can now be used during Inflated state after reaching 100 Elasticity.
      • Remove the 350 Bonus Health on entering Inflated state; now gain 350 Maximum Health and a one-time heal of 350, which is removed upon exiting the Inflated state.
    • Phoenix
      • Adjust Cosmic Flames maximum falloff at 30m from 60 percent to 75 percent.
    • Spider-Man
      • Reduce Web-Cluster energize time from 2.5s to 2s.
      • Increase Amazing Combo Damage from 60 to 70.
    • Squirrel Girl
      • Increase Burst Acorn Damage from 100 to 110.
    • Storm
      • Increase Weather Control - Thunder's Damage Boost to allies from 10 percent to 12 percent.
      • Increase Goddess Boost - Thunder's Damage Boost to allies from 12 percent to 15 percent.
    • The Punisher
      • Increase base health from 275 to 300.
      • Adjust Adjudication maximum falloff at 40m from 70 percent to 85 percent.
      • Increase pellets fired per Deliverance round from 14 to 16.
    • Wolverine
      • Increase Savage Claw's Percentage Damage for each point of Rage from 0.045 percent to 0.057 percent.
      • Increase Vicious Rampage's Percentage Damage for each point of Rage from 0.045 percent to 0.057 percent.
      • Reduce Feral Leap cooldown from 15s to 12s.
  • Strategist buffs
    • Cloak & Dagger
      • Increase base health from 250 to 275.
    • Invisible Woman
      • Increase Orb Projection hit damage from 25 to 30; projectile maximum range from 30m to 35m, and projectile speed from 120m/s to 150m/s.
      • Increase Force Physics length from 30m to 35m.
      • Guardian Shield New Effect: If no Guardian Shield is present, pressing the recall key now deploys a shield in front of Invisible Woman.
    • Loki
      • Increase base health from 250 to 275.
      • Adjust Mystical Missile's damage falloff at 3m from 50 percent to 80 percent. New Effect: Now heals directly hit allies for an extra 10 Health.
    • Rocket Raccoon
      • Reduce B.R.B. cooldown from 45s to 40s.
      • Increase Repair Mode maximum count from 5 to 7 and projectile speed from 60m/s to 80m/s.
      • Increase Bombard Mode Projectile Speed from 150m/s to 180m/s.

  • Explosive Entanglement
    • Gambit (anchor) and Magneto
      • Replaces Magneto's attack with a greatsword projectile.
  • Sword of Duality
    • Cloak & Dagger (anchor) and Hawkeye
      • Empowers Hawkeye's katana with light and dark energy that knocks back enemies.
  • Blade of Khonshu
    • Moon Knight (anchor) and Blade
      • Lets Blade dash forward to slash enemies with the sword of Dracula, ending in several sword strikes and a Moonblade projectile.

Placement Matches

Starting ranks in Competitive Mode will now be decided with 10 placement matches each season, guided by an initial rank based on a conversion of your previous rank. You will be able to queue with two, three, or up to six players, but it's capped at two players if anyone is Celestial, Eternity, or Top 500.

Anniversary Celebration

The first anniversary of Marvel Rivals arrives in December, and a new event will mark the occasion with free and paid skins, including the ones seen above. The free skin is a new Legendary for Jeff the Land Shark.

Cross-Progression

After testing in season 4.5, Cross-Progression between platforms is officially launching in season five. Players can carry their Marvel Rivals progress across console and PC, including their unlocked skins and account level.

New Accessories

Gambit, Human Torch, Magik, Mantis, Wolverine, Phoenix, Thor, Loki, Moon Knight, and Star-Lord all get their own attachments to equip in the season five update.

Times Square social space

A new non-combat area for up to 100 players based in Times Square will allow players to group up, hang out, and potentially even watch TV shows or movies via Disney Plus.

Focus on more PvE events

"More heroes, more maps, more themes" are coming to additional PvE modes in the future after the success of the Marvel Zombies mode.
