Marvel Rivals’ Captain America was too raunchy for this world

Marvel Rivals Captain America design.

Marvel Rivals is soon set to release its 9th season, and while fans have been understandably excited, there's something on the sidelines that some just can't ignore. To mark the summer season, Marvel Rivals released a series of swimsuit skins, and as you can imagine, some designs leave little to the imagination.

Surprisingly, it's Captain America that's been causing a stir thanks to some of his... finer character design details. Let's face it, Marvel's swimsuit editions have never been the most 'safe for work', (some would argue that's the entire point), but I think Cap's design might just take the cake with this one.

The new 'Summer Sentinel’ 4th of July skin features Captain America dressed in a skimpy singlet. The vague red, white and blue theme gently gestures to his namesake, while a striped bandana around his bicep (which is about three times the size of his head, naturally) ties in the rough character theming.

But of course, it's not the outfit fans are talking about; it's certain other... assets. Basically, he's got the whole package, if you catch my drift. The response to his well-endowed character design was so strong that devs swiftly downsized certain details, even reducing jiggle physics for a more modest look.

"On this, the USA’s July 4th Independence Day celebration, a gross injustice of censorship occurred: Captain America’s 'Seaside Sentinel Swimsuit Skin', one passionate fan on X wrote. "People noticed it no longer will 'clip through chairs' and other objects, and the jiggle has been reduced. When is enough enough when it comes to video game censorship?" they added.

Admittedly, it marks a change from the historically sexualised designs of female video game characters, with some critics arguing the backlash was missing this irony. "Y’all don’t have a single issue with the Black Widow skin but are going mad over the Captain America skin…? You can’t scream equality and then be mad when men are sexualized the same way by the way," one X user wrote.
