Marvel Cinematic Universe: 7 Irish stars who have made it to the massive movie franchise

Audiences are finally back to the big screen for their favourite blockbusters, and this weekend is sure to see huge crowds flock to cinemas as Marvel's latest instalment "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" is released.

As MCU fans book their tickets for this weekend, Disney has also launched their teaser clip for phase 4 of their Marvel Cinematic Universe. The clip was released last week and has been viewed over 6.5 million times already.

The MCU is a hugely popular part of the Disney Empire and it is only fitting that several Irish actors have found their way into it. Here’s a look at Ireland ’s very own Marvels.

Killian Scott

Love/Hate alum Killian, who has also appeared in Damnation, Dublin Murders and Ripper Street, is now officially part of the MCU. The Sandymount native was announced as joining the cast of the upcoming TV show Secret Invasion.

He will star alongside Hollywood heavyweights Samuel L Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn, who will be reprising the roles of Nick Fury and Talos, respectively.

The show will air on Disney+.

Barry Keoghan

Fellow Love/Hate star Barry played a character called Druig in Eternals, directed by Oscar-winning Chloe Zhao, which hit cinemas on November 5, 2021.

His character was aloof, charming and cheeky, and the character quickly became a fan favourite.

Tom Vaughan-Lawlor

We’re not saying Love/Hate was some sort of finishing school for the MCU but yet another member of the cast has had a big role in the movies.

Tom played Ebony Maw in Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel Avengers: Endgame.

However the Dublin star was unrecognisable in the film as his character was an alien so he was buried under heavy prosthetics. He does have an action figure though, if you fancy taking Tom home.

Kerry Condron

Despite being quite the stunner Marvel bosses were more interested in her voice, which she lent to the role of F.R.I.D.A.Y., Tony Stark’s A.I. assistant, in numerous movies including Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.

When she's not playing the voice of a computer she is probably best known to audiences for her role as Stacey in Better Call Saul. She also appeared in the Oscar winning movie Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Emmett J Scanlan

Dublin native Emmett was one of the first Irish actors to appear in an MCU project when he played the Head Riot Guard in the surprise smash hit Guardians of the Galaxy. He didn’t get to wear a cool costume but (spoiler) his character meets a pretty quick and grisly end.

He's worth mentioning here because it’s impossible to watch the film without pointing at the screen when he comes on and saying: “It’s yer man from Holllyoaks”.

Of course Emmett has enjoyed a far more illustrious career than just those two roles.

Chris O'Dowd

Unfortunately, it was one of the more forgettable MCU movies Chris O'Dowd appeared in, but he made it to the MCU nonetheless.

Chris appeared opposite Natalie Portman in Thor: The Dark World. The Roscommon native played Natalie Portman's character Jane's date in a fancy London hotel before she was called off for some inter-planetary phenomena.

Glenn Keogh

Audiences may know Blackrock native Glenn Keogh from his appearances in Curb Your Enthusiasm, but avid Spider-Man fans might also know his voice.

The actor was flown to Atlanta for filming but his footage was not used, although his voice was.

He told Ryan Tubridy: "That’s what happens when you have a face for radio. You probably know something about that yourself."

Glenn has also appeared in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a spin-off that revolves around MCU character Phil Coulson.
