Marvel actor shoots down speculation about major role in Harry Potter TV series

  • Paul Bettany has addressed and denied speculation that he will portray Lord Voldemort in HBO Max's upcoming Harry Potter reboot.
  • Bettany, best known to a wider audience for his role as Vision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, stated he has not been contacted about the role, despite being a fan of the franchise and HBO.
  • This follows Cillian Murphy's definitive denial of similar casting rumours for the villainous part.
  • Tilda Swinton has also been linked to the role of the Dark Lord, though she has not yet commented on the speculation.
  • The HBO series will adapt each of JK Rowling's seven books over seven seasons, with the first instalment set to premiere in 2027.
