Marty Morrissey backs Newmarket-on-Fergus GAA's fundraiser for charity

Marty Morrissey took to social media to show his support for a GAA club's fundraising challenge for charity.

Newmarket-on-Fergus GAA are participating in a 500 Mile Challenge, taking place throughout the coming June bank holiday weekend.

The organisers are calling for as many people as possible to walk, run or cycle one mile, and donate €10 to their GoFundMe page. The hope is that combining all participants 1 mile, they will reach 500 miles.

They have called upon people to post and share their contributions online, to encourage others to get out and get involved.

The fundraiser has also been organised by Newmarket Celtic, Newmarket-on-Fergus Handball Club, Newmarket-on-Fergus Camogie Club and Newmarket-on-Fergus Ladies Football Club.

Morrissey sent a video, showing his backing for the fundraiser, and encouraging everyone to get involved and donate.

He said: “Newmarket-on-Fergus is a very special place, I love it myself and I have many great friends there. But this weekend coming, June bank holiday weekend you're doing a 500 mile challenge, and all I can say is, spread the word.

“This is important. You're walking, cycling, crawling, whatever it takes. It’s going to raise money for various societies, like the Mens Shed, Meals on Wheels, Sláinte an Chláir, Bunratty Rescue, Pieta House.

“There're so many charities going to benefit from this, so all I can do is encourage you to get out there, participate, get active. As I say, walk, talk, do whatever you want, try and raise money for Newmarket-on-Fergus.

“It’s the bank holiday weekend, get involved, stay active, and I wish you all the best in the world. Well done Newmarket!”
