Marty Morrissey admits 'heartbreak' as mother Peggy to be laid to rest over weekend

The funeral details for the mother of RTE presenter Marty Morrissey have been announced.

Peggy Morrissey, who was in her early 90’s, died in the early hours of Tuesday morning after the car she was driving crashed near Miltown Malbay in County Clare.

Ms Morrissey will be reposing at St Mary's Church, Mullagh, Co Clare on Saturday December 11 from 3pm - 6pm.

Her Requiem Mass will take place at 2pm on Sunday December 12 with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

The funeral notice from RIP.ie adds: “Sadly missed by her loving son Marty, his partner Liz, great friends and neighbours. The family would like to thank you for your sympathy and support at this difficult time.

Tributes and messages of support have been pouring in after the death of Mr Morrissey’s mother.

Dan Healy, Head of 2FM, said Marty is “heartbroken” and appealed to the public to give the sports commentator privacy.

“My heart goes out to Marty. You can see from his book he adores her and I would say the man is heartbroken.

“He’s a very warm open guy and I think this is the time where actually Marty needs to be left alone.

“He needs privacy now and I am sure he is heartbroken.

Director-General of RTÉ, Dee Forbes said: “We were shocked and saddened to learn this morning of the sudden passing of our colleague, Marty Morrissey’s beloved mother, Peggy.

“We have been in touch with Marty to offer him our sincere condolences but also to offer him our support and to afford him the time and space to come to terms with his tragic loss."
