Actor Martin Shaw, it would appear, is not a fan of social media. Shaw, once best known for The Professionals but today familiar to millions of viewers as BBC1's Inspector George Gently, tells the new issue of Radio Times he is the original "grumpy old man". He's not kidding. "What is the point of all that?" he asks of Twitter and Facebook. "I text and I do email. But only because everybody else does. It's like nuclear weapons. They've got theirs so you have to have yours, but when you use them, everything gets fucked up." Steady on Marty, next you'll be telling us you don't have an iPhone. Shaw is not keen on litter either. "Litter drives me nuts. I have a fantasy about electronically impregnating somebody's DNA so that at a touch of a button they are forced to retrieve the Coke bottle they dropped 500 miles away. I love that thought." No word on whether a similar button could be added to encourage people to watch Gently. Or stop them banging on about The Professionals.
