Martin Samuel confident Newcastle takeover will go through, but warns fans of 'frustrating' aspect

Martin Samuel believes that Newcastle United fans could become frustrated after a takeover is completed due to the impact of Financial Fair Play regulations.

Discussions regarding a takeover that would bring an end to Mike Ashley's 13-year reign at St. James' Park are continuing, with Samuel stating he is confident the deal will go ahead.

However, while he said he was confident the deal would go through, he warned fans not to expect a frenzy in the transfer market as Newcastle could have their hands tied by the strict FFP regulations.

“I know the Newcastle fans will be expecting a massive influx of money and there will be more money in the club, in the facilities of the club and the structure of the club, and more money in the transfer market as well," the Daily Mail journalist told Sky Sports' Sunday Supplement.

“But the Financial Fair Play rules are there to stop owner investment and Newcastle will find it very, very difficult to get around those rules, as Manchester City are finding it very difficult to put their money into the club.

“Any new owner will find it difficult to put money in because what we seem to like in football is people taking money out of football, all the rules are there to stop people putting money in but you can take money out.

“The fans will be delighted because they’re getting rid of Mike Ashley but in terms of being able to grow the club and making a short-term impact on the elite teams, I think it could be quite frustrating for them.”
