Martin O'Neill launched my Celtic career, I'll build a statue for him myself

Celtic striker Callum Osmand has praised Martin O'Neill, jokingly saying he will "build" a statue for the 74-year-old.

The 20-year-old was signed by Brendan Rodgers last summer from Fulham, though he failed to make a first-team breakthrough under the former manager.

However, he was integrated under Rodgers' temporary successor, scoring his first goal in professional football against Rangers at Hampden.

Six months on, during O'Neill's second stint in charge, he returned to the squad, scoring the third in last week's title decider against Hearts. Martin is so funny. You probably see it in his interviews, but in meetings he’s amazing," he said.

"He knows how to calm us down and get us ready for games. He knows when to really get onto us and when to lift the mood. He knows what he’s doing, he’s one of the best at his job, and he’s amazing.

On O'Neill's future, Osmand continued, "Ultimately, that’s not up to me; that’s in Martin’s hands. He’s been amazing for us. You can’t understate what he’s done for the club; he’s pulled us out, saved us, and won us the title. It’s in his hands. He’s fantastic, and it’s up to him.

"One hundred per cent [he deserves a statue]. I’ll be there, I’ll build it myself. I’ll be carving that at home. He’s fantastic."
