Arsenal are reportedly among the clubs who have expressed an interest in signing Martin Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid.
The 22-year-old Norway international has struggled for regular football at the Santiago Bernabeu, playing just five minutes since the start of December.
Odegaard has requested to leave Zinedine Zidane's side before the end of the window and Arsenal have entered the running for a deal.
However, the Gunners face fierce competition to get a deal over the line and the latest developments do not appear to be promising.
Reputable Sociedad outlet Noticias de Gipuzkoa state that the Norway international has received 'many offers' but has decided to return to Real Sociedad.
He caught the eye during his spell with the Basque outfit last season, which saw him remain in Zidane's squad for the current campaign - but a return could now be on the cards.
Odegaard's preference means that Arsenal appear to have suffered a significant blow in the running for his services, although there is still a chance.
It is added that Odegaard does not know if Real Madrid will approve a return to Sociedad or if they have another plan in mind.
While the two sides are not direct La Liga rivals, it may be that Real are looking for a fresh challenge for Odegaard to aid his development.
