Martin Odegaard wants a permanent solution to his future this summer, according to Norway manager Stale Solbakken.
football.london revealed on Sunday that Arsenal want to sign Odegaard after his short loan spell at Emirates Stadium.
The Norwegian midfielder hasn't spoken publicly about his desire to sign for the Gunners, but Solbakken has hinted that only a permanent move would work for the 22-year-old.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has already confirmed that the club want to sign Odegaard, after he scored two goals and made two assists in his five month loan spell.
“We have a very clear and strong opinion on what we would like to do,” said Arteta when asked about keeping Odegaard.
“He’s not our player. We will have discussions in the next few weeks. And respect first of all because he’s a Real Madrid player, and we will have those communications.
“We’ve tried to make everything that we could to get Martin performing for the team, which I think he’s done.
“And he’s adapted really well to our way of playing and to our football club. And hopefully we have given him as well the hope and the feeling that it could be a good place for him.”
Odegaard made 20 appearances for the Gunners and did enough to convince Arteta to make a permanent move for him ahead of next season.
"It is important for him to be a regular part of the first 14-15 players (in a squad)," Solbakken told Dagbladet.
"In the big clubs you do not always play every single time. There is always rotation when you play every three or four days. But he himself is crystal clear that it is important to take root.
"Ancelotti is a coach where the players have great freedom in their roles. It seems like a well-liked guy. But it's not something I'm going to throw myself into with skin and hair. Martin's representatives must take care of that."
At a press conference earlier in the week, Odegaard remained coy when asked about his own future.
"I do not have much to say about it now, really. Now it is the national team gathering and two nice matches that are the focus," he said.
"I have been on loan and have a contract with Madrid. I have a few more years. And that's what I'm dealing with. Beyond that, I do not have much to report right now."
