Martin Odegaard reveals new condition for Real Madrid return or Arsenal permanent transfer

Martin Odegaard has once again addressed the idea of a permanent Arsenal transfer.

The Norway international is spending the second half of the season with the Gunners having joined on loan late in the January transfer window from La Liga giants Real Madrid.

But in just a couple of months, he is set to return to his parent club with Los Blancos said to be keen on having Odegaard play a key role next season.

As reported by football.london, Arsenal are keen on extending the 22-year-old's stay in north London and further talks planned with Real Madrid at the end of the current campaign.

Odegaard has recently named the one condition that would see him either return to Spain or seal a permanent move to Emirates Stadium.

"I said many times that I’ve been looking for stability (in same club), but haven’t found it," he told VG. "I think it’ll be important to find stability. I’m very happy at Arsenal, enjoying myself.

"I like it here. Now my focus is to finish the season, then we’ll see."

Doubling down on the stability factor, Odegaard has now revealed another key condition regarding his future - development.

"My future at Arsenal? The deal with Arsenal is until the end of season," he said at a Norway press conference, as per the Norwegian media.

"We'll see what happens this summer.

"I've said things before that I still stand for: stability and development are key words."

With that said, there is a big hitch regarding Arsenal's plan to sign Odegaard permanently.

The midfielder's release clause.

Under La Liga regulations, all players in Spain's top flight must have a release clause, but Odegaard's is ludicrously high, currently at £301million with his contract not due to expire until 2023.

Of course, Real Madrid could allow Odegaard to leave for less than that, but that release clause puts them in a very strong position at the negotiating table.
