Martin O'Neill asked if there will be 'player exchanges' between Nottingham Forest and Olympiacos

Nottingham Forest boss Martin O’Neill has been discussing the chances of players moving between the Reds and fellow Evangelos Marinakis-owned club Olympiacos.

Although admitting he “cannot say for sure” whether there might be movement between the two teams, O’Neill says there are significant differences between the English Championship and the Greek Super League.

Players have switched between the two teams before, most recently with striker Karim Ansarifard having joined Forest last November, following the cancellation of his Olympiacos contract.

But O’Neill says it can be tough for some to adapt to the different style of play.

Asked if “there will be player exchanges between Olympiacos and Nottingham Forest” by Greek website Sport 24, speaking at the end of the season, he said in a translated interview: “Olympiacos will try to join the Champions League clubs. And you saw the game with Bolton (Forest’s final game of the campaign), although it was not a very representative game of the Championship, which is often very tough and physical.

“I don’t want to say that Olympiacos doesn’t have those kind of matches, but we are talking about football that does not have similarities.

“There are players who are unable to cope with the football here in England.

“I cannot tell you for sure if there will be any exchanges, but I can safely tell you that the football Olympiacos is used to and that played here in the Championship is quite different.”

The Reds manager will nevertheless be looking to put his stamp on the squad this summer as he targets promotion to the Premier League next term.

And he has made it clear that bolstering his team in attack will be a priority in the transfer market.

"In the first place, we must say that we have to put more goals in,” he said, when asked what kind of players would be needed for a promotion charge.

“To put more goals in, we need to create more opportunities, which means that we need to have creative players.

“And whoever scores goals is expensive.

“If you look at the teams who go up, you will notice how they can score from many places.”
