Nov. 12--Martin Nesbitt, the Chicago financial executive and civic leader known recently for leading the effort for an Obama presidential library in the city, has been named to the board of American Airlines Group.
Nesbitt, 52, often described as a close friend of President Barack Obama, serves as co-CEO of The Vistria Group, a Chicago-based investment company focused on the education, health care and financial services industries. He formerly co-founded and served as CEO of The Parking Spot, an operator of off-airport parking facilities. Before that, Nesbitt was an officer of the Pritzker Realty Group and an investment manager at LaSalle Partners.
Nesbitt also serves on the boards of Jones Lang LaSalle and Norfolk Southern. He is a trustee of Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art and is chairman of the Barack Obama Foundation, charged with raising money and carrying out the president's vision for the Barack Obama Presidential Center on the South Side. He is former chairman of the Chicago Housing Authority and a former board member of the Chicago 2016 Olympic Committee.
American Airlines, the second-largest carrier at O'Hare International Airport next to United Airlines, also named Susan D. Kronick, 64, to its board. She is an operating partner at Marvin Traub Associates, a New York-based retail business development firm.
"These seasoned executives bring unique perspectives shaped by their extensive leadership experiences and strong community ties in two of our hubs, Miami and Chicago," said Doug Parker, American's board chairman and CEO.
American's board has 13 members.
