Martin Lewis will take Piers Morgan's old seat next to Susanna Reid on GMB

Martin Lewis will be stepping into Piers Morgan's shoes on Good Morning Britain and joining Susanna Reid at the desk.

The money guru has been a regular guest contributor to the ITV morning show for over ten years and and will now get a chance to be in the hot seat asking the questions.

The Mirror reports that Martin is “stoked” to be joining Susanna Reid as a presenter and is looking forward to holding “power to account” during his three-day gig from June 28 to June 30.

And if all goes well, it is expected that ITV bosses may offer him a longer run fronting the show.

Talking about his new role, Lewis said: “For 15 years I loved answering questions on Good Morning Britain.

“Now I’m stoked about getting the chance to ask them. While I hope to set the agenda on key consumer issues like scams and the financially excluded, I’m also up for the challenge of spreading my wings on all subjects.

“And when it comes to holding power to account, I always play fair with a straight bat, but that doesn’t stop me swinging it hard.”

Martin Lewis, 48, founded his financial advice website, Money Saving Expert, in 2003 and sold it nine years later for a whopping £87million.

He has fought successful campaigns including against bank charges and PPI and is worth an estimated £125m. And he continues to fight campaigns regarding homeowners with cladding.

Martin regularly appears on ITV to offer straight talking advice on how to save money and often gives updates regarding policy changes that could impact finances.

He recently showcased other money saving hacks founded by the public, one included a thrifty coat that helps avoid luggage charges.

GMB Editor Neil Thompson said he was a “journalist and broadcaster at the top of his game” and a perfect fit for the show.

“Trust has been and continues to be hugely important throughout the pandemic,” he said.

“And I can’t think of many people more trustworthy than Martin Lewis.”

Piers Morgan left Good Morning Britain after refusing to apologise for on-air comments over Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

However, Morgan's exit doesn't appear to have dented the morning the show as GMB is seeing its highest share of viewing in a decade, alongside ITV’s other flagship daytime shows Lorraine and This Morning.

Stand-in hosts have included former BBC Breakfast star Bill Turnbull and ex-Labour spin king Alastair Campbell.
