Martin Lewis warns Tesco Clubcard holders about voucher expiry date and explains way to extend them

Consumer champion Martin Lewis has issued a warning over Tesco Clubcard vouchers - and says there is a way to extend them.

On the Martin Lewis Money Show Live on ITV, he said £13m worth of vouchers would expire in eight days. Any vouchers issued in November 2020 will expire on November 30, 2022.

Clubcard vouchers are issued every three months, in February, May, August and November. These are normally then valid for two years, reports The Mirror.

Martin said: "Check whether you’ve got [vouchers to use] at Tesco.com/Clubcard or via the app." You need a minimum of 150 points to get a Clubcard voucher, which will be worth £1.50 to spend in Tesco.

There is a way to triple your points if you redeem them with more than 100 “Reward Partners” including Thorpe Park, Pizza Express and the RAC. Shoppers can also use their vouchers to bring down the cost of their festive shop, on fuel or with Tesco Mobile.

You can check if you have forgotten Clubcard points by logging into the Tesco Clubcard website with your account details. But there is a trick to extend your vouchers, if you’re not quite ready to spend them just yet, Martin explained.

It involves making a small purchase with your Clubcard vouchers, then the remaining balance is credited back to your account with another two-year deadline. Martin said: "Take your £10 voucher online and buy a 50p restaurant voucher on its Reward page - which is worth £1.50 because they triple it. Now, you will get reissued £9.50, the change, in vouchers, and they are new vouchers so they have a two-year lifespan."

Clubcard members should be receiving their next set of vouchers this month - and these will again be valid for two years.
