Martin Lewis warns shoppers a 'big shake up' is coming to Tesco Clubcard

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has issued a warning to millions of Tesco Clubcard holders due to an upcoming change to the reward scheme.

The new change, as well as the impact of the new national lockdown, means that you may want to hold off on spending your vouchers - or rush to spend them quickly.

Two Tesco Clubcard rewards partnerships are ending this month, so if you’re planning to redeem your vouchers, now is the time.

Tesco Clubcard deals ending this month

According to MSE, Tesco’s partnership with BA Executive Club is coming to an end on January 18, which means shoppers have until 11.59pm on this day to swap their points via the Clubcard website.

Martin says shoppers can gain 600 Avios points with £2.50 in Clubcard vouchers and as long as you cash in your vouchers before the deadline, the points collected will remain on your British Airways Executive Club account, valid for at least three years.

Tesco’s partnership with Now TV is also coming to an end this month, on January 31.

50p in Clubcard vouchers usually becomes £1.50 in credit for the streaming service, and Martin says that as long as you’ve swapped your points online at the Clubcard website by 11.59pm on Sunday, January 31, you'll be able to use this reward, even if it takes longer to credit you.

Martin says it’s also worth checking the expiry dates on your vouchers since so many of them are unusable at the moment due to lockdown.

While a few rewards can be redeemed and enjoyed right now many others aren't usable due to lockdown restrictions including biggies such as restaurant vouchers and days out.

Clubcard points are valid for two years, but when you swap them for a voucher, it has an expiry of 12 months so as long as your points aren't coming to the end of their validity, it's still best to wait as long as possible if you want to swap them for a reward that's currently unusable.

What about vouchers I’ve forgotten about?

Many people lose or forget to use their Tesco vouchers, but there's an easy way to claw back the last two years of unused vouchers.

According to MSE, Here's how to check if you have any forgotten vouchers:

  • Log in online. Go to the Tesco Clubcard site. You'll need to be registered for a Tesco.com account - you'll need your email address, password and Clubcard number to access your account.

  • Check for unspent vouchers. In your Clubcard account, click on 'my Clubcard account' and then 'vouchers' on the left-hand side and you should see a table listing the vouchers you still have to spend.

  • Instantly print vouchers or use the codes online. If you want to spend vouchers online, you simply need to use the code listed, eg, beginning "A6TCD". To spend in store, print vouchers yourself to use instantly
