Martin Lewis urges Tesco shoppers to act now ahead of major Clubcard change

Martin Lewis is urging Tesco shoppers to take action after the supermarket confirmed a major change to its Clubcards.

Appearing on the Martin Lewis Money show last night (June 13), the money-saving expert highlighted that Tesco is slashing the value of points with reward partners on Thursday, June 15. Initially, the deadline was to hit on Tuesday, however, the supermarket extended it by a couple of days.

It means that shoppers will now have until midnight tomorrow to exchange any points at triple the value at reward partners such as PizzaExpress, Disney+, RAC, and Zizzi. After the deadline, Clubcard vouchers will only be worth double their value when exchanged with reward partners.

"Currently, you can get three times the value of your Tesco Clubcard Rewards partners," Mr Lewis said. "It's been that way for years.

"Now from Friday it's dropping permanently to two times. So a fiver becomes a tenner. That's all. So swap now, you can do it online".

In order to get the best savings possible, the money-saving expert advised shoppers to go online and swap their points as soon as possible. However, some shoppers have expressed frustration at Tesco due to experiencing difficulties accessing the website to swap their points.

Writing on Twitter, user @AliConnell1 said: "Ok @Tesco you might have extended the deadline but the site still isn't working properly/efficiently! I hope you extend again for those who have been trying for days!.

Meanwhile, user @davebanana said: "We've been trying to convert out clubcard points to 3x vouchers all week but no luck. The deadlines looming and wondering whether you're ever going to fix the site, or conveniently have it start working again once they decrease in value tonight? Will you honour 3x rate?"

User @CritchD85 said: @Tesco when will your clubcard site be working properly? We’re getting all sorts of odd error messages whilst trying to redeem our vouchers before the deadline."

Tesco confirmed that customers may see a delay in receiving voucher codes due to a high number of people visiting the site. However, it noted that its teams are working hard to process all orders as quickly as possible.

The supermarket advised anyone experiencing difficulties accessing the site to try again later, highlighting that the 48-hour extension provides additional time to place an order.
