Martin Lewis is to step down as editor-in-chief of MoneySavingExpert and will be replaced by Jason Mills, head of digital at ITV News and former editor of News at Ten.
Personal finance journalist Lewis, who founded the tips and advice website in 2003, will focus on his role as executive chairman.
Lewis, who has been juggling the roles of executive chairman and editor-in-chief since last September, founded the site with just £100 and sold it to price comparison company MoneySupermarket in 2012 a deal that netted him up to £87m.
“When the site joined the MoneySupermarket group, the deal was I’d stay for three years,” said Lewis. “That ended last September, but I’m still here, still a zealot about saving people money. This is an exciting moment for me and MoneySavingExpert, as others take hold of its steering wheel. Jason’s full time focus on the site, without my media distractions, will be a big boost.”
Mills, the web editor then head of digital at ITV News since 2011, joins on 4 July and will lead the site’s 32-strong editorial and campaigning team.
“The site has been one of the biggest causes of social change in the last decade, empowering millions,” said Mills.
Mills is a veteran TV with more than 20 years’ experience at ITN, ITV, the BBC and Sky News.
Between 2003 and 2010 he worked at ITN, which makes ITV News, with responsibilities including editing News at Ten.
MoneySavingExpert has also appointed Kirsty Good, currently business editor at Sky News, to the newly created role of campaigns editor.
