Martin Lewis to interview Rishi Sunak following cost of living announcement - full details of how to watch

Martin Lewis has announced that he will be interviewing Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, this evening in a livestream to be simultaneously broadcast on the consumer champion’s social media platforms and the MoneySavingExpert.com website.

The interview will focus on the revised financial support measures expected to be unveiled today.

The Chancellor is scheduled to tell MPs in the Commons that he will scrap a requirement to repay the previously announced £200 discount on energy bills, set to be applied to millions of electricity accounts in October, and according to some reports, could also increase the level of the grant.

Other measures which could form part of a package worth around £10 billion are expected to be targeted at households on lower incomes.

Financial experts have warned that the Chancellor will need to be careful that any extra help he puts into the economy does not add further to inflation, which is running at a 40-year high.

As well as the possible impact on inflation, the Chancellor’s ability to help beyond the £22 billion package already announced will also be restricted by the state of the nation’s finances.

A Treasury spokesman said: “The Chancellor was clear that as the situation evolves, so will our response, with the most vulnerable being his number one priority.”

Announcing the livestream interview on social media, Martin Lewis wrote on Twitter: “The Chancellor @RishiSunak will set out a cost of living plan in parliament today. Then later this pm I'll be doing a live video Q&A with him HERE, where I'll put my & your questions to him.

“Info on timing & how to suggest Qs after his announcement. Pls spread word though.”

The financial guru, who recently hosted a cost of living special edition of his award-winning Money Show Live on ITV, will be putting questions from MoneySavingExpert.com users to Mr Sunak, in the wake of his announcement this lunchtime.

The interview is scheduled for 5.15pm on Thursday, May 26 and will be streamed on MoneySavingExpert.com.

It will also be available live via:

The Chancellor is due to make his statement around 12.30pm.
