Martin Lewis quizzed Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak on the latest episode of his ITV programme.
The finance guru asked the MP a number of questions submitted by members of the public - selecting only a few out of the hundreds submitted.
As part of The Martin Lewis Money Show the pair stood talking on docklands after the new budget was announced by Mr Sunak yesterday.
Martin said he has some "concerns" about the extension saying that he is worried that it is pushing house prices up.
He asked if intervening in the housing market like this does more "harm" for first time buyers and others, adding "is house price inflation really a good thing?"
In response Mr Sunak said taking a step back there are over half a million jobs that are supported by the housing sector.
He added that he wanted to make sure activity continued within it - protecting the jobs.
Talking about house prices he said: "There's lots of different people who have looked at it, it looks like the benefit of the stamp duty cut last time did accrue in large part to the buyers so they did see the benefit of that.
"But you're right to focus on affordability of house prices - I care about that, like you, that's why the mortgage guarantee scheme we've put in place is of help to people who can only afford a small deposit."
