Martin Lewis shares top tip you must do now to avoid being ripped off on Black Friday

Martin Lewis has urged shoppers to compare prices now to avoid falling for fake Black Friday deals.

Black Friday is due to take place on November 26 but most sales will extend way beyond just one day.

In fact, some retailers including Boots, Superdrug and Studio have already launched their sales - three weeks ahead of Black Friday.

Some discounts will also go on beyond Black Friday itself as well, so it’s possible some items will be cheaper after the sales bonanza.

If you’re hoping to bag a bargain, Martin has told shoppers to start preparing now in case items actually increase in price.

What are you hoping to buy on Black Friday? Let us know in the comments below.

Previous research from Which? published last year showed 85% of Black Friday product prices aren’t the cheapest they’ve ever been.

In fact, just 1% of items were at their lowest ever price.

Writing on Twitter, Martin said: “Quick tip. Got anything you're planning to buy during Black Friday promotions?

“Go and do a price check now, so you have a benchmark to see if it is really cheaper when it is 'discounted'.”

Of course, the best way to save money this Black Friday is to only purchase what you really need.

But if you do have a particular item in mind, here are some of the best ways to compare prices.

How to compare prices online

As Martin suggested, it’s a good idea to take note of prices now.

That way when it comes to Black Friday, you’ll be able to tell straight away if retailers have pumped up the prices.

There are also some websites you can use to give you a good idea of what you should be paying.

Price Spy tracks costs from thousands of different retailers, including Argos, Amazon, eBay and the supermarkets.

Idealo is another website that lets you compare prices, or CamelCamelCamel is recommended if you’re shopping on Amazon.

Or for just supermarkets, if you're looking at food deals, Trolley.co.uk is a useful tool.

Finally, you should also try Google Shopping - this lets users search for and compare prices across the web.
