Martin Lewis shares Nectar hack that will get you a 'free' £187 spend at Sainsbury's

Money-saving champion Martin Lewis has shared a very clever trick to help shoppers get a free supermarket spend at Sainsbury's.

The nifty hack, which involves the new American Express gold rewards card, could get consumers £184 to spend at the chain in the coming months.

Speaking on the 100th episode of The Martin Lewis Money Show on Thursday, Martin said: "This is how to get serious shopping at Sainsbury's.

"It's about the American Express rewards gold credit card.

"If you're accepted for the card and you spend £3,000 in three months, you will get 23,000 Amex reward points, which includes a 20,000 point bonus.

"The first thing you do is convert 23,000 Amex points into 23,000 Avios points."

He continued: "Then, because you can now swap Avios points into Nectar, you convert that into 36,000 Nectar points, which you can then spend at Nectar partners, including Sainsbury's, where it's worth £184 – nearly double what they would typically suggest."

"This is a new thing that's come in, Avios to Nectar, and you can do Nectar to Avios too, that's why this trick works," he added.

"Do it carefully if you do this, but there can be free shopping for you there."

Martin did, however, warn viewers that they should only do this if their normal spending is over £1,000 a month.

To convert points, account holders need to link their Nectar and British Airways Executive Club accounts, which can be done on either the Nectar or British Airways Executive Club websites.

From there, select the 'convert your points' option and then swap your points in either direction.
