Martin Lewis says millions of Brits are owed £140 towards heating bills

As the UK becomes increasingly colder, Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has advised Brits that they could be owed £140 towards their heating bills.

Speaking on ITV's the Martin Lewis Money show, he explained how millions of people in the UK are eligible for a Warm Home discount.

He said: "Are you due a Warm Home Discount? "This is £140 credit that goes towards your energy bill.

"It's automatic if you receive a guaranteed element of pension credit but if you are on certain benefits (income support, jobseekers, and some people on universal credit) you will need to apply to your energy firm to get it."

He continued: "If your someone who qualifies for Warm Home, there are so many big firms that do it with relatively cheap prices.

"I'd go to a firm, the cheapest firm that offers Warm Home discount, most comparison sites will show you that."

According to the Daily Star, Martin warned that sometimes you have to apply for a deadline and there can be caps on the number of customers given the discount, so he advised viewers to get cracking.

Martin then outlined the help available for people really struggling financially who have to choose between paying off energy bills and eating.

In England and Wales, it's Simple Energy Advice, and there's also Home Energy Scotland and NI energy advice.
