Martin Lewis says goodbye to GMB as he confirms he won't be permanent replacement

Martin Lewis bid goodbye to Good Morning Britain today as he confirmed that he wouldn't become Piers Morgan's permanent replacement on the programme.

However, he did say that he would be open to returning as a guest presenter again.

The money expert, 49, presented the show for the first time this week, but it came to an end today as co-star Susanna Reid gushed that it had been lovely having him on the show.

She said: "It's been utterly wonderful having you - I'm not sure you worked for free this week..."

"I never work for free," he quipped.

Susanna continued: "But you're absolutely value for money, of course, and it's fantastic working with you."

Martin replied: "It's been a wonderful, refreshing change to be outside my normal subject - which I love and I will be going back to. I think I have a mission in life and that's about saving people money and fighting for financial justice."

"You certainly didn't steer clear of that in this programme," Susanna interjected.

Martin thanked Susanna Reid for her help (ITV)

Martin said: "But to have a platform and to come and do this. Maybe you'll have me back for another few days, I don't think it will be permanently."

He later took to Twitter to thank fans for their support as he presented the programme this week, saying: "

He wrote: "Thanks to (almost) all of you for your support on @gmb week. It's a privilege to step out of my usual subject area. @susannareid100 is an incrediblely generous & supportive co-presenter behind the scenes and the team have looked after me well making it so much easier.

"And a secret about my interviewing texhnique (if you can call it that) . I can't read briefs on set as the print is too small without my glasses, so I have to just to listen to the guests and ask questions based solely on what they say."

His followers congratulated him, with one tweeting: "Listening….. a skill not all presenters possess….. well done you. Have enjoyed your presenting immensely, you bring a positive energy to the programme."
