Martin Lewis's urgent warning for people who still have Mothercare gift cards

Martin Lewis has issued an urgent warning to anyone with an unused Mothercare gift card.

The chain, which entered administration earlier this month, will no longer be accepting gift cards as payment after midnight tonight, he said.

This means any leftover money on the cards will effectively disappear.

The Money Saving Expert founder shared the warning on Twitter this morning, writing:  "Urgent. Spread word to anyone with a Mothercare gift card, the "in administration" retailer will stop accepting gift cards at midnight tonight. So if you've got one, use it now... "

The brand has also confirmed the news in a customer notice on their official website.

"Gift cards will be an accepted method of payment until midnight tonight," it reads. "Thereafter, gift cards will not be accepted.

Huge queues outside Mothercare in Swansea as they launch 'everything must go' sale

The company has been trying to sell off its UK arm for several months after it fell to a £36.3 million loss last year under a controversial company voluntary arrangement.

It currently has three stores in Wales - two in Cardiff and one in Swansea.

Administrators have said they will begin to close over the coming "weeks and months".
