Martin Lewis's latest advice to self-employed workers claiming financial support

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has issued the latest advice to self-employed workers claiming financial support.

If you're self-employed or a member of a partnership and have been adversely affected by coronavirus you can use the Government's Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) to claim a grant.

The scheme allows you to claim a taxable grant of 80% of your average monthly trading profits, paid out in a single instalment covering three months, and capped at £7,500 altogether.

But many self-employed Brits have asked if the scheme will be extended, like the furlough scheme for employees has.

Martin Lewis has pressured the Government for an answer as to whether SEISS will remain temporary.

He said: "Last week, the furlough scheme for employees was extended until October.

"So no surprise the most common question I've had this week is whether SEISS will be extended too.

"While the lump sum payouts are being made now, these cover income for March to May, so the period covered ends in just 11 days.

"Sadly, there is no official news, and I'm afraid the response to the feelers I've put out aren't great.

"SEISS's future is currently being considered, but it's far from certain if another lump sum will come. I've tweeted the Chancellor on it.

"Overall, to manage expectations, I'd say it's only 50-50 if there'll even be another payment."
