Martin Lewis's advice to anyone who parks at airports could save you £270

Summer is nearly upon us and many families will be preparing to jet off on a long-awaited holiday.

But financial guru Martin Lewis has issued a stark warning to anyone wanting to park at airports. The expert says there can be a considerable difference in parking costs depending on whether you pay on the day or book in advance - crucial advice to be aware of as the cost of living spirals.

On his Martin Lewis Money Saving Show, the expert showed how you can save £270 just by booking before turning up. He looked at parking at Manchester Airport and found parking on the day cost a whopping £400 a week.

However, when booking in advance, motorists can pay as little as £130 a week while they jet off on holiday. He says booking in advance can even be done on the day.

Martin said: "Parking at the airport, book ahead. Even if it's on the day.

"Given an example, we found one case where, if you turn up at Manchester Airport and paid there it's £400 for the week. If you had pre-booked that morning, it was £130.

"Better still, if you had booked earlier, there are comparison sites for that too."

He also advised travellers to check their hotel prices on comparison sites, especially if they have free cancellations. He said some sites could offer a cheaper price meaning you could cancel and rebook your room.
